Perfecto Herrera has been a researcher with UPF's Music Technology Group (MTG) since its very inception and holds a PhD in Information and Comunication Technologies by the UPF. In the MTG, he has been responsible for projects related to the automatic analysis and description of sounds and music, recommendation and personalization of music, and music perception and cognition, areas in which he has published more than 150 papers and articles of international scope. He is also permanent professor with the Department of Sonology of the Superior Music School of Catalonia (ESMUC) where he teaches music technology, psychoacoustics and critical listening skills. Although his original academic training is in Psychology, in the 90s he studied Computer Music with Xavier Serra and Gabriel Brncic and, after some experience in pirate radios and recording studios, he refocused his professional career towards the field of sound and music technologies. Besides his academic work, Perfe collects and tinkers with synthesizers "with personality", makes music in cryptic musical bands, and sometimes he could suggest you to listen to music that might give you a headache.
