James is the Chief Strategy Officer at Guardian News & Media, responsible for strategic planning and transformation. In his role James has been at the heart of delivering the Guardian’s turnaround plan over the past three years, as the business has gone from a -£58m loss in 2015 to breaking even this year, all while continuing to deliver world leading journalism.

James joined the Guardian in 2014 from Bain & Company, where he led teams focused on strategic and operational questions across media, private equity and other industries. He is a member of the Innovation Council at the Confederation of British Industry and holds a BA in History from the University of Bristol.
