Holly Herndon

Composer, performer, and digital researcher

Holly Herndon is a composer, performer, and digital researcher. From her work - a constant exploration of voice and technology– she approaches current topics about the relationship of humanity with technology, and the ethical dilemmas that emerge from this bond.

In the last iteration of her work, she takes the investigation around surveillance capitalism a bit further, developing along with her partner Mat Dryhurst, and the developer Jules LaPlace, an artificial intelligence (Spawn) inspired in “smart speakers” and trained as if it was a baby, that has (perhaps) to be protected from certain pieces of information that occur around it.

“Spawn” is a sonic tool that is part of her last album and live show, and it’s also an instrument to question A.I policies.
