Chair Quartet repurposes the function of an object through sound. Four chairs are sonified and designed according to their sonic identity, with sensors built within their frames. Interaction with the chairs will give rise to specific sonic experiences. The Chair Quartet explores the relationship between the user, the chair, and the collective body of users and chairs. In promoting the chair as an instrument, users will understand the dynamics of collaborative improvisation directly through movement of the body.
The Information Experience Design programme at the RCA designs experiences to communicate information, creating installations and interventions using all senses, modes and media, including sound and moving image. The programme approaches social and technological systems critically and works across art and design, grounded in theories and research methods from science and philosophy
