The artist Daito Manabe and the Kyoto University neuroscientist Yukiyasu Kamitani use “brain decoding” technology to speculate about the future of sound and image.
Let’s imagine a future technology that automatically generates music from brain activity when we watch a film, or vice-versa, that we could generate images from brain activity when listening to music. This is the starting point of “dissonant imaginary”, the collaboration between Daito Manabe and Yukiyasu Kamitani that we will experience at Sónar 2019.
At Sónar+D we will explore the details of this collaboration and we will take a closer look to the work of Dr. Kamitani, a pioneer in “brain decoding” a field in which the human brain is analyzed using functional magnetic resonance imaging and deep neural networks to translate the brain’s signals into visual content.
