Roger Linn, LinnStrument

Roger Linn, designer of electronic music products and founder of LinnStrument

Roger Linn is a designer of electronic music products, best known for his invention of the first sampled-sound drum machine in 1979, used on 1980s hit recordings by Prince, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Peter Gabriel and others. He later designed the MPC series of drum machines, often credited as a major influence in hip hop music. His current focus is the LinnStrument, an electronic instrument intended to bring the subtle solo performance expression of fine acoustic instruments to the performance of electronic synthesis. In 2011, the Recording Academy presented him with the Grammy Award for Technical Merit.
