Ignasi Ribas is the director of the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC), researcher at the Institute of Space Sciences (IEEC) –part of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC)–, and he holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Barcelona.
His work focuses on exoplanet research and the precise knowledge of stars, in order to improve planet search and classification techniques. Ribas is actively involved in instrumentation projects, both on Earth and in space, with the aim of discovering new planets similar to Earth. He has published around 150 research papers in international journals, including Nature and Science.
Ignasi Ribas worked on the Sónar Calling project's feasibility, and setting the groundwork needed to send music to space.
