60% of girls love science at school, but only 18% chose degrees related to this field. By 2020, there will be 1.4 million jobs available in tech-related fields and the inclusion of women is necessary to satisfy the demand. Girls in Lab is the first social and collaborative movement in Spain that is intended to offer free training for girls and teenagers through workshops and campuses, and is committed to end the gender gap in technology and engineering.
Girls in Lab presents a workshop on electronic musical instruments making using Makey Makey, an open source board based on Arduino that allows you to convert almost any object (a banana, for instance) into a control surface (a game controller, for instance), and Scratch, a visual programming language designed to be introduced into the world of computer programming.
No previous knowledge of programming is required. The only requirement for joining this workshop is bringing your own laptop.
*Due to the nature of this project, 20 of the 25 available seats are reserved for women.
