According to data collected by the IDESCAT (Statistical Institute of Catalonia), turnover of the cultural industries was 9.6 billion euros in 2013, and the number of people employed in them by the end of 2015 was more than 150,600 in Catalonia. It is a growing sector that sets Barcelona in a key point due to the number of active businesses, the events that take place in the city and the quality of its educational opportunities. To make the training options in the field of creative industries visible, the Barcelona City Council and Sónar+D have created the map of educational opportunities of Barcelona.
This session will address the situation of the cultural industries in Barcelona from the perspectives of its weight in the local economy, the employment that generates and its capacity to attract talent, as well as the role that the public administration has to play.
The talk will be led by Xavier Fina, professor and Head of Promotion and Management at ESMUC (Catalonia’s higher school of music) and ICC Consultors Culturals founder and director.
