STARTS –Science, Technology and Arts– is a supporting initiative by the European Commission that encourages the collaboration between artists, scientists and technologists. The resulting synergies will change the way of thinking and creating in every field, artistic creation techniques and technological research methodologies. STARTS will be at Sónar+D with a presentation of this European initiative by EC technical expert and CEO of Arthsare Luis Miguel Girão; the CEO at Blue Room Innovation, Denisa Gibovic; Stephen Dunne, Director of Starlab Neuroscience Research and Xavier Bové, art director of the International Mapping Festival of Girona. This talk will be chaired by Dr. Miquel Montaner, CTO Blue Room Innovation.
STARTS will focus its presence at Sónar+D on success stories where information and communications technology has been applied, putting special emphasis on AI technologies and smart systems. The STARTS project will be presented by Blue Room Innovation, technology, innovation & funding consultancy with over 15 years experience in the strategic transformation of businesses.
Luis Miguel Girão founder of Artshare, the NATO Art Expert, is a researcher generating support for EU and Transatlantic policy making in the field of the crossings of art, science and technology. He is a transdisciplinary artist developing applications of technology as tools for artistic expression focusing at the moment on bioelectromagnetism. He was coordinator of ICT ART CONNECT 2013 and of ICTARTCONECT.study for the European Commission that gave origin to the DG CONNECT’s initiative STARTS – Science, Technology and the Arts.
Denisa Gibovic. MBA, executive director with extensive professional experience in business and R&D+i projects development and management. Her educational background includes philology, political science, international project management and funding. Denisa strongly believes that creativity and intuition are the basis for the authentic digital disruption with smart digital technologies which transform businesses.
Stephen Dunne has over ten years experience translating cutting-edge R&D into real world technologies. Currently Managing Director at Starlab while leading the Neuroscience team at Neuroelectrics spin-off, the world’s leading wireless, neuro-monitoring and neuro-modulation technology companies. Neuroelectrics develop new technologies for transcranial current stimulation, closed loop stimulation and a new line of neuroscience data services focussed on human experience, human performance and disease biomarkers with applications in consumer behaviour, sport, education, creativity and disease diagnosis.
Xavi Bové is visual composer and Director of the International Mapping Festival of Girona (FICG). From a technical background as a telecommunications engineer, his work is characterized by providing a sensitive approach in fields such as performing live music, videomapping, live visuals, video art, performing arts, advertising and new media art . He has been awarded several prizes for his long experience in the musical world, especially in the opera and electronic music fields. Among his latest creations “Moviments Granados” –a mapping project in real time with live music– stands out.
Miquel Montaner received a M.Sc. and a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering and a MBA by the University of Girona. With a background in Artificial Intelligence, his main work has been the development of innovative projects for companies and institutions as well as the coordination of several national and European R&D funded projects. He establishes the technological vision for companies and leads the company’s technological development.
