Artist Olafur Eliasson and engineer Frederik Ottesen created Little Sun to obtain clean affordable energy for off-grid areas that affect a population of 1,100 million people. Eliasson and Ottesen created the Little Sun solar-powered LED lamp in 2012, of which more than 350,000 units have been sold, half of them distributed in areas without access to electricity, thus creating jobs and boosting local economies. Every time a Little Sun lamp is sold in areas with electricity, another one is sent to a community in Africa to be sold at affordable prices.
In 2016, Little Sun expands with the introduction of Little Sun Charge, a solar-powered phone charger and lamp. Exposing the charger to sunlight for a whole day you can power up a small device (smartphone, camera…) or provide light for over 150 hours.
