GMSN! (Glasgow Make Some Noise) is a community of musicians, producers, university lecturers, technicians and electronics geeks devoted to create Music and Video DIY tools. Their activity is focused on making modules and boards for modular synthesis, mostly for beginners. Their products include very detailed documentation and all their modules are easy to use. GMSN! stimulates the local community offering workshops and gathering work groups, and goes global distributing their modules and components on their online shop.
The Glaswegian collective will present their Pure Modular project, a synthesizer created with schools in mind to run inter-department projects and giving arts and music a much deserved place in an educational system that often forgets them. The synthesizer is available in kit form, so it needs to be built before it can be played. The kits come with all the components required including power supply and case, together with full colour, step-by-step instructions. Students will learn how to solder and build electronic devices, including testing and calibration, getting the instruments ready to play.
