Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) is a centre specialized on High Performance Computing. The BSC-CNS Scientific Visualization Group presents at Sónar+D a trilateral collective music creation called Algorhythm: the festival attendees and an AI algorithm processed by one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, MareNostrum.
This experiment entails the composition of a tune through the input from the attendees that visit the BSC stand at MarketLab. Two types of input will be used: first, a motion sensor will scan the gestures of the attendees to convert them into sound; then, a survey will be conducted all three days of the festival. An AI algorithm will orchestrate this composition the same way the human neurological system works: the system learns and processes gestures and opinions from the users, and modifies the composition constantly. The festival will connect live with MareNostrum to visualize the activity of the algorithm and the evolution of the composition during all three days.
