2019 sees the renewal of the We Are Europe project for another three years. The project, which sees 8 European festival-forum’s collaborate to foster links between artists, professionals, ideas and the general public will be present throughout the program of Sónar and Sónar+D, with a number of co-curated performances and talks as well as artists and speakers selected from the We Are Europe pool of 64 figures working to create tomorrow’s culture.
This year’s invited festivals are TodaysArt (NL) and c/o pop (DE).
The musical program at Sónar will be enriched by Holly Herndon PROTO on Friday 19th July, co-curated by TodaysArt, and with the performance by pool artists Push1stop & Wicklow: Membrane also curated by the Dutch Festival.
Meanwhile c/opop co-curates experimental electronica legend Fennesz’ new show at SonarComplex as well as that of pianist-producer Hauschka & Francesco Donadello, also part of the We Are Europe Pool.
Other pool artists performing in the wider musical program are Mans O, Hamill Industries & Shelly: Audible Spectrums and Hibotep as well as Shiva Feshareki and Slikback.
At Sónar+D c/o pop present the workshop Making Iconic Music Gear with David Möllertsedt (Teenage Engineering), Mate Galic (Native Instruments) and Peter Kirn, and the talk on Creative tools for future dj culture featuring Heiko Hoffman (Beatport) and Jack Bridges (SoundCloud), moderated by Ronny Krieger.
Meanwhile, TodaysArt will be presenting the Creative Technologies Café with Push1 stop, Alba G.Corral, Ouchhh studio, Hamill Industries and Natalia Fuchs, as well as the talk Listening to the voice of AI with Holly Herndon and Mat Dryhurst.
Two further activities featuring figures from the We Are Europe pool will also take place: a talk on The New Internet with Marta Peirano, Xenia Ermoshina and Jay Springett, and the Generative laser through sound workshop by Hamill Industries.
