Mazda is the naming sponsor for Stage+D where many of the keynote speeches and presentations will take place.The partnership agreement with Mazda extends to “A Taste of Sónar+D by Mazda Rebels”, with a series of performances and events held throughout the year dedicated to showcasing new audiovisual instruments, disruptive technologies and pioneering on stage experiences. Mazda has spent several years charting its own distinct journey in the automotive industry further proof of its commitment to rebellion and innovation in technology, culture and artistic expression.
RICOH is the naming sponsor for the Startup Garden, the space that brings together the best entrepreneurial projects from the creative industries. Beyond this sponsorship, RICOH will also enrich the Startup Garden, convening there with marketing managers from some of its major clients to kick-start a collective challenge: to collect, identify and assess the vectors of digital transformation that will make the most impact in the immediate future. The creative purpose of Sónar+D and the entrepreneurial environment of Startup Garden by RICOH, create the ideal framework to launch this initiative.
PlayStation® will also be present at Sónar+D showcasing the latest developments in video games and technology. No Man’s SkyTM, the gigantic space epic developed by Hello Games will feature prominently in the festival, with a specific focus on its sound design and soundtrack. Paul Weir, the game’s sound engineer, responsible for generating audio in procedural form, will be giving a talk, and 65DaysOfStatic, the British group known for their experimental post-rock will be playing a special live version of the soundtrack they composed for the game at SonarComplex. Also represented at Sónar+D will be PlayStation®VR, the company’s highly anticipated virtual reality device, which will have a dedicated stand in the festival Hall allowing attendees to experience the feeling of being inside a video game, ahead of its launch.
For the third year the Sorigué Foundation collaborates with Sónar for the creation and world premiere of a new media installation in the SónarPLANTA area, which promotes and celebrates research into creative languages based around technology and new media art. After a closed call for internationally renowned artists to submit newly created proposals expressly for this initiative, the winning artists this year are the artist duo Semiconductor who will premiere their piece Earthworks at the SónarPLANTA space, on the Sónar by Day site.
