Sónar+D hosts the 6th edition of the Music Hack Day Barcelona, and opens the call for entries for the event. The call goes out to hackers from all over the world, and will be open from 15 April until 6 May.
Music Hack Day is a marathon 24-hour session in which the 100 hackers selected conceptualize, create and present prototypes of the devices and applications that will shape the way we listen to, compose, perform, distribute and discover music in the future.
This famous hackathon is organized jointly with the Music Technology Group at Pompeu Fabra University, and returns this year with the challenge of developing technologies based on unconventional interfaces, with a special track for wearables and musical performance.
Two research and innovation projects funded by the European Commission –Music Briks and Rapid Mix– will give the hackers access to technologies developed by research centres such as the IRCAM, the MTG, Fraunhofer and the Technical University of Vienna. These technologies will be presented at a prior event on 17 June with talks, workshops and performances, while the traditional 24-hour hackathon will take place on 18 and 19 June.
