The Startup Competition, organized by Sónar+D and sponsored by Ricoh, aims to find 10 global companies working to reconfigure the creative industry sector.
For the second edition of this Startup Competition at Sónar+D, we are holding an open call for submission to find 100 startups from all corners of the world with capable and ambitious teams and that possess a good potential for growth in the global market. The selected companies must have a strong technological and creative profile and can be no more than five years old.
On June 18th, these 10 selected companies will gather at Sónar+D to present their projects in front of an international jury panel made of experts and investors that will determine the winning company and award a second and third place.
The prizes that are confirmed at the moment are the following:
Participants at Sónar+D’s startup competition will have access to the SendGrid Accelerate Program. Seven finalists will win a 12-month SendGrid’s Silver Package valued at $960 (equivalent to 100,000 emails per month) and the three winners will receive a 12-month SendGrid Golden Package, valued at $2,400 (equivalent to more than 300,000 emails per month.)
The online platform KOMPYTE monitors and analyzes the strategies of the main competitors of a company. Using the Kompyte Advance plan, you are instantly notified when a competitor launches a new online strategy. Seven finalists will receive subscriptions for six months free and the first three place winners will receive 12 months free.
Easypromos is an application for promotion and competitions on company Facebook pages. A three-month subscription for unlimited campaigns will be rewarded to seven competition finalists. A six-month subscription will be awarded to the third place winner, nine months to the second place winner, and one year to the first place winner.
Furthermore, Talentians, the leading online placement service will work to find the best talent for the finalists through the “Talentians’ Connectors community”. Eight finalists will be offered one unpaid intern each for a six-month period, found through the platform. Second and first-place winners will be given two and three interns, respectively.
Barcelona Activa, the platform that promotes the economic growth of Barcelona and its metropolitan area since 1986 , will offer a six months free of charge incubation office to the winner of the competition as long as the costs do not exceed 3000 euros.
On the other hand, Betahaus, the Nº1 Coworking Space & Event Venue in Barcelona for entrepreneurs and creative professionals will offer two CLUB memberships to each of the 10 finalists. This allows access to the co-working Betahaus space in opening hours and other added valued services for the star-ups.
RCD (Rousaud Costas Duran) is a law firm of reference in innovation and entrepreneurship, with a specific department of over 30 professionals dedicated to these issues that will also give a prize. All 10 selected companies will have access to preferential legal fees for two years from the date of the Competition. Moreover, their first consultation will be free of charge.
For the winners (1st, 2nd, 3rd ), RCD (Rousaud Costas Duran) will offer free strategic legal advice from 2 to 4 hours covering relevant issues for entrepreneurs such as corporate, IP, data protection, e-commerce, tax, labor, etc. RCD (Rousaud Costas Duran) will provide this legal support at its Barcelona and/or Madrid offices according to Spanish law.
Keiretsu Forum, the largest worldwide network of the investors, will give a special award for global projects regardless of who wins the competition. The prize will be awarded to the start-up with the most international vocation and the best ability to raise funds internationally. The prize would be the opportunity to present their start- up for free at one of the Spanish Keiretsu Forums held in Barcelona, Madrid, San Sebastián or various itinerant locations of Andalucía.
Finally, the main sponsor of the competition, Ricoh will give a Ricoh Theta camera for the winner. This is a camera that shoots 360-degree photos that you can view in any direction.
On the other hand, on Wednesday June 17th, one day before the start of Sónar+D, a selected group of professionals will take part in a training session for startups, powered by ISDI/IMPACT, including the 10 finalists, in order to maximize the Sónar experience. In this workshop, they will learn the key to getting funding from investors, how to enhance and optimize public relations and interactions with the press.
