IdeasBox is a portable multimedia center for refugee camps and vulnerable communities, created by Libraries Without Borders with the creator Philippe Starck and the UN Refugee Agency. The first Ideas Box kits were deployed in refugee camps in Burundi, in a Syrian refugee camp in Jordan and in low income neighborhoods in France. Previous workshops were hosted in India, Philippines, Colombia & Ecuador.
The goal of this workshop is to help us imagine how to plug more music into the IdeasBox. Currently, the IdeasBox users can play and listen to music thanks to the tablets apps. They have a microphone and a stage, and a hip hop club was set up in one of the boxes. But we know we can do much more!
We will think of the best tools and activities that could be offered and organized in the Ideas Box so that the Jordan teenagers who want to become DJs or the Burundi women who are eager to learn guitar can release their full potential, and the IdeasBox animators can catalyze all this musical energy!
The workshop will be carried out by Ben Costantini, a volunteer advisor of Libraries Without Borders, who helps with the music development of the IdeasBox. He is also an Instructor at Berklee College of Music, Valencia Campus. For the past few years, he has been involved in the curation and executive production of various international conferences such as Midem and LeWeb.
