In its fifth edition at Sónar+D (and sixth consecutive year in Barcelona) the famous hackathon, organized together with the Music Technology Group of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, returns with the challenge of developing disruptive technology useful for music composition and performance based on non conventional interfaces. This event brings together experts from around the world on interactive design, data visualization and acquisition, movement detection and biosensors, tools for fast prototyping.
April 15th marks the opening of the global call for this edition of the hackathon and will last until May 6th. From there 100 hackers will be selected to participate and during the first two days of Sonar+D, will shape and implement new software and hardware prototypes for over 24 hours. Participating companies will open to the hackers their technologies applicable to music, sensors, devices or wearables, as a challenge to transform and create the next generation of applications and devices for the creation and music performance.
Two research European projects, funded by the European Commission, will be present in this edition: Rapid Mix y Music Briks. Hackers will access to technologies developed on leading research european centres as Music Technology Group, IRCAM, Fraunhofer, Vienna University of Technology. The day before MHD there will be a meeting that will include inspirational talks, practical sessions and performances using wearables and interfaces with expressive capabilities.
