littleBits are a series of modular electronic pieces that connect together using magnets to create complex circuits quickly and easily. littleBits gives people the opportunity to learn and familiarize themselves with electronics. littleBits may be small, but the creative possibilities that they offer to makers, designers, hackers, students and the curious are endless.
From their most basic concept, Jordi Borràs will outline the process of littleBits’ evolution from its origin to the latest addition to the module collection the Cloud bit. Cloud bit is the element that links the littleBits to the universe of the “internet of things.” Cloud bit is a tool that can turn any mundane object into an “intelligent” one that can connect to the internet without needing any previous knowledge about soldering or cables.
In his talk, Borràs will present several case studies conducted with designers, teachers and kids on how the design process can be disrupted and how to apply the concept of “The Audience of One.”
Jordi Borràs is a Barcelona-born and New York-based designer with more than 15 years of experience developing many different products. After an existential crisis as a designer, he joined the littleBits team, generating enough drive and excitement to create a tool that brings electronics to everybody instead of a finished product. During his previous career as a designer, Jordi was awarded several prizes and honorable mentions.
