Whereas the concept of ‘Anthropocene‘ has not been officially coined by the scientific community, the term came to be widely accepted in different spheres (cultural, scientific, social) by 2002, when Nobel prizewinner in Chemistry Paul Crutzen –famous for his research on the formation and destruction of atmospheric ozone– mentioned this new geological era for the first time, defined by the irremediable intervention of human beings on nature.

There is still no consensus in the scientific community to establish the beginning of this era, which replaces the Holocene. Some relate it with the discovery of the agriculture, while others with the Industrial Revolution or the development of nuclear energy. As a matter of fact, the human impact on nature is a reality and different actors tackle this issue from different fields.

Sónar+D gathers British artists Semiconductor presenting their latest installation at SonarPLANTA; Felix Hallwachs, creator of the Little Sun solar lamp, as well as artist and photographer Armin Linke, regular collaborator of Fundació Sorigué,  to reflect on this new era in a talk chaired by physicist Josep Perelló from the University of Barcelona
